This is what matters when connecting the satellite dish

Satellite dishes are electrically conductive. Lightning protection is therefore indispensable for safety and insurance reasons should always be installed by a specialist. A distinction is made between external lightning protection (earthing) and internal lightning protection (equipotential bonding).

Earthing or external lightning protection

External lightning protection is mandatory if the satellite dish is on the roof, for example, or if it is attached to the wall in such a way that its upper edge is less than two meters from the edge of the roof. The grounding must also be carried out if the satellite dish protrudes more than one and a half meters from the wall. The specialist needs a special copper cable for external lightning protection. This must not lead over pipes or the rain gutter or be laid directly next to other cables.

Equipotential bonding or internal lightning protection

The internal lightning protection, like the external one, is mandatory if the satellite system is outside the lightning-protected area: on the roof, less than two meters below the roof edge or more than one and a half meters from the house wall. Equipotential bonding is also required if a satellite system is installed across apartments or houses. The installation of the internal lightning protection is complex and depends on the conditions on site.
