social change

Introduction

The consideration of social change and beyond that the wish to be able to predict it were at the beginning of sociology. At that time, this discipline shared with the philosophy of history bold ideas of the laws of many cultures. The 19th century was a high point of these great designs. Later the subject of the explanation shrank to the analysis of Western "modernity". How can social scientists imagine the "modernization of modern societies"? was the question of one of the last sociology days.
The first volume combines the presentation of classics of theories of social change in Europe and the USA, with particular attention being paid to the English-speaking authors, some of whom are hardly known to us. The presentation aims to locate the "classics" not only in terms of the history of ideas, but also as contemporary witnesses who responded to changes in their societies.
