Studying music - yes or no?

What do I have to be able to do in order to be accepted at a music college or academy? What do I learn in a music course? Where can i study? In the near future, numerous universities and music academies and schools in Germany, Austria and Switzerland will offer help in answering these questions.

Many (university) schools organize information days about the content of the course or prepare courses specifically for the entrance exam. Some also offer the opportunity to gain the necessary experience and knowledge in a preliminary course or pre-college to successfully master the aptitude test at a university.

In the department for jazz and popular music on Dr. Hoch’s Conservatory In Frankfurt, training is offered that covers a broad musical repertoire of modern musical styles. Music schools such as the Mannheim Music School (and other music schools in Baden-Württemberg) offer preparatory theory lessons for the entrance exam. The Stuttgart Music School offers one- and two-semester courses to prepare for the entrance examination at music colleges in the subjects of music theory and hearing (information).

Ear training online offers free ear training for prospective music students. The training was designed by the Mannheim University of Music and the audio samples from music students were played on a wide variety of instruments.

Studies or vocational training?

An overview from Studycheck lists 15 courses of study at 9 universities that offer popular music; the keyword “jazz” has as many as 30 hits. As a rule, female singers have fewer difficulties in passing the aptitude tests at the universities of jazz and popular music.
