How to learn web design for free

Free online web design courses

You don't always have to spend a lot of money if you want to learn the basics of web design and are still a beginner. Many courses are now available as so-called tutorials on the Internet and you can at least learn some basics and then see if you want to deepen your knowledge.

Many online universities such as Udemy, Coursera or Khan Academy offer entry-level courses in web design for free. Sometimes you have access to the entire course, sometimes you have to pay, for example, to use certain functions or to get a diploma. Nevertheless, the free course videos are often enough to take the first steps in web design.

Learning by video

Another great source for free online courses is the video platforms. Many teachers, programmers and web designers have created their own small courses that can be viewed free of charge. The advantage is that you can watch these videos when you have the time and you can pause them whenever you want to try something that you have just learned. A disadvantage is that many of the courses remain very superficial and are often only advertisements for a paid course.

Many books and teaching aids are also available in PDF format on the Internet and can be downloaded for free, but it is not always easy to find them. The best thing to do is to add a “PDF” to an Internet search for “Web design course”, then documents that can be downloaded onto a tablet or laptop will also be displayed.

Pay attention to

Most of the time on the web, the bigger the promises, the less they are kept. For starters, you should simply familiarize yourself with the basics of HTML, learn to use an editor, and perhaps slowly get started with CSS. There is no shortage of such free courses and there is a wide range, also in different languages. The more specific it gets, the fewer free courses there are.
